While it’s all too likely that you’ve seen one of Kenzo’s super loud designs in at least one ritzy shopping mall, the brand, which is based out of Paris but thoroughly Japanese by both name and nature, boasts a luxury heritage that’s worth envying. First established by Japanese designer Kenzo Takada in the ‘60s, Kenzo began life as a handmade women’s boutique before expanding into mens and home collections in the decades that followed.
Perhaps the most important moment in Kenzo’s recent history came with the 2014 release of the brand’s now-iconic Tiger Sweatshirt, which drew upon bold branding and the traditional Japanese imagery of the brand’s heritage to create a statement piece that sold out within hours and found favour with everyone from Jay-Z to Spike Jonze.
The tiger logo has gone on to become synonymous with the brand, available on t-shirts, accessories and, of course, outerwear in almost all of Kenzo’s most recent collections.
