A man described as ‘always embracing the new and different’ Ben Sherman was constantly searching for the best of things. A passionate businessman with an artist’s soul, Ben started making shirts for people before his creative flair took over and he started designing his own pieces.

Sherman’s first design was based on the classic American Ivy League shirt, with an added back hook, a button at the back collar, and added attention to fabric, pattern and colour. The shirts became such a huge success, with the shirts embraced by post war teddy boys and the scooter riding mods, that the brand could not produce shirts fast enough with orders often exceeding production capacity. Over five decades later and the brand has been adopted by almost every youth culture, from 2 tone and ska to Brit pop, remaining an icon in fashion.
