RE-ICONIC® helps to extend the life of fashion items through reuse (Pre-Loved, Rescued), care services (Alterations & Repairs) and supports responsible end-of-use solutions through the donation of usable clothing and recycling of unusable clothing. While a small part of THE ICONIC’s business, these initiatives provide a practical way for our customers to choose to participate in circular solutions, support the development of a circular fashion system in Australia, and help reduce textile waste to landfill.
With growing customer demand for more responsible shopping options and an urgent need to address fashion waste, these initiatives are a natural next step in THE ICONIC’s ongoing sustainability journey. As foundation members of Seamless (Australia’s national clothing product stewardship scheme), we are committed to contributing to the development of a circular fashion system in Australia. A circular fashion system eliminates waste through a product’s lifecycle by ensuring clothing is made using safe, recyclable or renewable inputs, is used for longer, and is made to be reused. This is in contrast to a traditional linear system, in which clothing is made, used and discarded.
Circular fashion comes to life through circular design (garments are more durable, have recycled content and are recyclable), circular business models (such as reuse, resale, repair and rental) and closing the loop through effective textile collection, sorting and recycling. We all have a crucial role to play in developing and implementing an effective circular system.
