Recycle

  1. Looking to recycle old clothes? Responsibly dispose of clothing that’s too worn, stretched, stained or torn to be used again through clothes recycling.
  2. Purchase a RCYCL bag on THE ICONIC and fill it with unwearable items to be recycled, once they’ve been washed and dried.
  3. After you’ve packed your items, scan the QR code on the bag to find your nearest drop-off location.
  4. RCYCL’s vetted recycling partners sort and process items by fabric type. Items are reprocessed into new yarn if they are 100% natural fibres and into carpet underlay or felt if they are synthetic.

Frequently Asked Questions

RCYCL's services aim to fill a gap in Australia's clothing waste management. Each year, over 200,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in Australian landfills while charities receive 190,000 tonnes of clothing donations, including unwearable items. RCYCL offers an easy way for our customers to contribute to reducing textile waste.

As a member of Seamless (Australia’s clothing stewardship scheme), THE ICONIC is helping to develop a national system for clothing collection, sorting, reuse and recycling.

Costs cover the operational expenses of donation and recycling:

  • REWEAR: Covers shipping to Salvos Stores, saving the social enterprise from paying postage. Salvos Stores fund the process of sorting and rehoming, with 100% of the profits supporting the Salvation Army’s life-changing work.
  • RCYCL: Covers the cost of shipping to recycling partners, sorting by fabric type, and the recycling process, diverting items from landfill. Garments and household linen are reprocessed into new yarn if they are 100% natural fibres, or reprocessed into carpet underlay or felt if they are synthetic.

REWEAR: Quality clothing and accessories in good condition — items you’d be proud to give to a friend.

RCYCL: Clothing and household linen in unusable, washed and cleaned condition — items you’d be embarrassed to pass to a friend. Please no underwear.

Yes! Please make sure your clothes are freshly washed and dried before donating (or recycling).
